Because meatball are too mainstream if you talk about Malang city, now i would share about OREM-OREM. I dont know, orem-orem is original from Malang or not but i’m sure that from INDONESIA :D
what is orem-orem?
seems like kari but they use santan with many spices like pepper, lemongrass, galinggale with palm sugar.
usually, orem-orem serve with ketupat, soft chicken and tempe with fried onion showing and if you like, add salted egg. yummmy :D
one of my favorite orem-orem at Malang you can visit Orem-Orem khas Arema at jl. Blitar near with Malng University, but you can cook at home and this is the recipe (source: http://ancestralrecipe.com/orem-orem-tempeh.html)
Ingredients:
12 pieces of tempe
1,5 cups coconut milk
4 green tomatoes (sliced large)
3 green chilies, wash the seeds, oblong slices
3 kaffir lime leaves
Spices that are:
4 red onions
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon coriander
1cm galangal
little kencur
salt, sugar, seasonings
How to make:
– coconut milk boiled with sliced tempe, until slightly thick coconut milk (shrink). Then enter the tomatoes, green pepper, salt and sugar, a little seasoning, stir until smooth.
– after that, bring to a boil, while stirring once in a while, so that milk i s not broken. Lift and serve.
